Dermal fillers reverse signs of aging and keep skin looking youthful, but not all fillers work the same way. Sculptra is a unique product that stimulates collagen production. Collagen is a key component of the skin that adds volume and elasticity and softens fine lines and wrinkles. We combine Sculptra with other anti-aging treatments at our Guelph and Burlington clinics as part of a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation.
What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra differs from other dermal fillers because it’s injected deeper than other fillers and stimulates the production of new collagen. Most fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® products, are gels containing hyaluronic acid that smooth wrinkles by restoring volume and hydrating the skin. Sculptra takes a different approach. Its main component is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible substance that works gradually to trigger the production of new collagen.
This is especially important as we enter our 30s when the body’s natural collagen production slows significantly. Sculptra also requires a bit of patience because it works gradually, producing subtle and natural-looking results that can last 2 years or more. We usually recommend scheduling 3 treatment sessions to get the best outcomes.
Combining Sculptra With Other Treatments
Our providers, including lead dermatologist Dr. Dusan Sajic, believe skin rejuvenation works best by combining treatments to address the different issues that cause our skin to age. We may recommend combining Sculptra injections with BOTOX Cosmetic® and radiofrequency microneedling to address multiple concerns. Dr. Sajic has developed a 5 Dimension Skin Plan™ that’s available only at deRMA Skin Institute.
