Dermal Fillers

Smooth, firm skin and full lips and cheeks are the hallmarks of a youthful appearance. As we age, not only does our skin begin losing elasticity, but we see diminishing bone, fat, elastin, and collagen under the skin. This can cause women and men to look older than they feel. Dermal filler treatments at our Guelph and Burlington offices restore lost volume and offer a more vibrant appearance.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

The active ingredient in most fillers is a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a multi-functioning, naturally occurring molecule found in the human body which can hold nearly 1,000 times its weight in water, helping to plump and hydrate the skin. Our bodies begin losing about 1 millilitre of HA every year when we’re in our early 30s. The loss results in a deflated appearance, similar to how a grape gradually becomes a raisin.

Dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and BELOTERO BALANCE® replace the lost hyaluronic acid. Topical serums, such as SkinCeuticals’ HA Intensifier, can also improve the skin’s appearance.

What Are The Different Types Of Fillers?

HA dermal fillers come in many different forms and consistencies, including firm, elastic, and soft. There are also skin boosters, which revitalize the skin’s texture and minimize very fine lines without changing the contours of the face.

Some fillers have active ingredients other than hyaluronic acid and are designed to treat specific issues. RADIESSE®, for example, uses gel microspheres containing calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds by stimulating the production of new collagen. Sculptra® Aesthetic and Bellafill® are other long-lasting fillers that also stimulate collagen production.

Think of fillers like building blocks for your house. Just as concrete is good for your foundation but not your roof, different fillers make sense in different areas of the face. Your lips will generally need a different type of filler than your chin, while your cheeks need a different filler than your jaw and forehead.

Regardless of what filler we use, our goal is always to work with you to give you the best possible outcome: to match how you feel on the inside with what you see in the mirror. Youthful, vibrant, and unstoppable.

The fillers we offer at deRMA Skin Institute include products from the following companies:

In the past 10 years or so, fillers have become increasingly specialized. The JUVÉDERM product family, for example, includes VOLUMA® (cheeks), VOLBELLA® (lips), and VOLLURE® (lower face).

Obviously right on phone. Do I wait the 10 seconds? No, everybody else is different. If you look at an atomic here,

It looks,

It is just what you see kind of thing and what you think is right at that time. What you feel comfortable, what you think will give them that most natural result. It’s just what you think is and how can you achieve what’s there. Key is always, that’s what I say. Look, you’re looking at it all different depths and so where you’re putting stuff, you’re not going to put shingles in your basement and you’re not going to put concrete on your roof, right? Lift and the musculature or does want to become, she does have on a grand scheme of plate, like a longer, but, and that’s just going to Increase.

So at some point she did it. Probably she wants to lift, pushing this and it’s just going to, there’s no way this type of, so it’s really all about symmetry, not making endless. You can’t really sort do too much without making.

Which Filler Is Right For You?

By far the most important question when selecting a filler is who is doing the filler procedure. Fillers are medical devices and need to be treated with the proper respect. Much like when selecting a driver to pilot a Formula One car, we passionately believe that it’s not sufficient to have just anyone with a driver’s license behind the wheel—especially when the course is your face!

For the safety & satisfaction of our patients, all lip injections are performed by one of our expert physicians who are certified in dermatology and aesthetic medicine. Our team will meet with you during the consultation to discuss your goals and the risks and benefits of the fillers.

Understanding facial anatomy and the dynamics of the skin and each type of filler (and how they interact at different areas of the face) are critical in selecting the right filler. Additionally, it’s important to know how much filler to use—injecting too much can produce undesirable results.

We often combine different types of fillers with other procedures (such as BOTOX, lasers, radiofrequency, and other energy-based treatments) to produce the most natural-looking results. Our goal is to reverse, stop, or slow down the advancement of Father Time in the most natural way possible. We want to work with you to achieve the best version of you. A rested, glowing, vibrant you!

Dr. Sajic’s mantra is: “If it looks done—it’s been done wrong.”

We have extensive experience combining fillers to produce a nonsurgical “liquid facelift.” We use fillers as building blocks to replace the structures aging has erased. It’s part of the patented 5 Dimension Skin Plan™ procedure developed by Dr. Sajic.

When Will You See Results From Fillers?

Unlike BOTOX®, dermal filler results are noticeable immediately, especially when done as a part of our 5-D Skin Lift procedure. Some swelling and lumpiness (more felt than seen) are normal. As the fillers settle, the natural results are boosted even more. Many of our patients pair dermal fillers with treatments such as Morhpheus8 radiofrequency microneedlingCO2 laser skin rejuvenation, BOTOX, Clearlift™ laser procedures, and Accutite to produce optimal results. We don’t have a cookie-cutter approach, and our board-certified cosmetic dermatologist customizes treatments to suit your unique needs.

Do Filler Injections Hurt?

Most patients tolerate filler injections quite well. We use numbing cream as well as a local anaesthetic to help keep you comfortable. Additionally, an anaesthetic is pre-mixed with most fillers. If needed, we may also medicate you with prescription-strength pain medicine. We also have Penthrox® as an option—an effective, fast-acting, non-opioid inhaled analgesic product that helps greatly with pain and anxiety.

Post-Treatment Instructions

We will give you instructions on how to best care for your skin after the procedure. Generally, this is well tolerated though there may be bruising. We have medical laser treatments in Guelph that can significantly decrease bruising should you get it. Avoid massaging your face and generally avoid heavy exercise for the first 48 hours after treatment.
